FAQ for Auditions

Q: Do I have to join the troupe?

A: Absolutely not! This is not the Hotel California, you certainly can check out anytime you like. To save your own time and ours, though, it may be best to read the audition information thoroughly and also, to carefully listen to the pre-screening before you audition. We understand that you are busy, and there is a high possibility that you may not be available for future shows, despite our 16-hour investment in training you; therefore, the compensation we offer balances it all out.

Q: Why is the cash payment so low?
A: Because we are training you for 16 hours (involves renting a space + instructor’s time), providing a 4-course dinner, plus tips. As a seated actor, your involvement in the show does not require too many lines or work.

Q: Why do the detectives make more money?

A: They have a higher level of skill, and they basically run the show…..for about 3 hours!

Q: What if I cannot come to every rehearsal?

A: Then you will not be casted, unless you have experience in this type of show, or we have worked out an arrangement

Q: What if I am a cast member, and have an emergency the day of the show?

A: Emergencies happen, and we do understand; however, we hope that this will not happen to you. And we hope that you have the integrity to not bail after all the time and training we have invested in you. Should there be an emergency, we ask that you inform us immediately, and hopefully it gives us time to find a replacement

Q: Do I get to select my role?

A: The role will be assigned to each actor, depending on their abilities and how we see them fitting into the show. We will always cross-train the actors, and rotate them in the various roles, but keep in mind that some roles may be more challenging than others and may require specific skills. Although we remain open to fresh talent, in the interest of a great production, we will always reserve the right to retain particular individuals for those key roles.

Q: Do I have to pay for the troupe membership?

A: At this moment, no.

Q: What if I leave immediately after training?

A: You mean, will we hunt you down and nail your hide to the wall? Nah! But that would be poor judgement on your part. The acting community in Beijing is very small. Besides, we have ways of checking you out before me make this type of commitment to retain you as an actor on the show
